Sinharaja Rain Forest is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This beauty of the world was originally declared a forest reserve in 1875 and due to its international importance, it was designated as a Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. Sinharaja is the country’s last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. More than 60% of the endemic trees and almost 50% of endemic wildlife of Sri Lanka attracts thousands of visitors giving them the opportunity to experience this value of Sinharaja.
